None of the 3 has announced whether they will carry ESPN HD.
But all three would be stupid not to carry it. The only real question is whether all three will have it on March 30th when it launches. I suspect all three will be on board when it launches and we’ll know something in the next few weeks.
With the rumors that Dish is going to launch an HD package with up to 7 channels this summer, Cox has to be wondering where they’re going to find the bandwidth for all this new HD content, in addition to the locals, which is something the satellite companies can’t offer.

Regarding the bandwidth contraints, the Tulsa locals on Dish are over compressed and look pretty bad. I am wondering about the OKC locals? Are they bad on Dish? Bad on DirecTv? Bad on both? I am just glad that I had to make arrangements to get mine OTA when we lost the national feeds a few years ago.
But I am really curious where all this HDTV bandwidth is going to come from!
Just to clear any misunderstanding there are no local market HDTV broadcasts on either DirecTV or Dish. There just isn’t enough bandwidth.
I don’t have locals via satellite either. I was grandfathered in when the law was passed in 1998 and just recently lost most of my distant locals. By then, I had put up a UHF antenna to receive digital signals and HD. I don’t have any interest in paying $6/month to receive the two analog channels — KFOR (NBC) and KOCO (ABC) — I don’t get with my antenna. KWTV and OETA come in fine on my UHF antenna.
Because KOCO will eventually get their digital signal on the air via Channel 7, I’m planning to add a VHF antenna which will get those two channels. I get NBC’s primetime programming via KFOR-DT in HD so the analog channel means nothing to me.
I have some friends that get their locals from Dish and they like them, mostly because they couldn’t get KSBI and the OSU basketball games very well with their antenna. They replaced it with a wireless 802.11b receiver for broadband internet. Considering they live five miles from the nearest paved road, they love their broadband internet better than any OTA channels.

I may be able to answer:
Where is the bandwidth coming from?
At least for the DishNetwork. The DishNetwork is changing from QPSK modulation to 8PSK (8 phase shift keying) modulation for HDTV, which increases their bandwidth by 33%. This requires either the 8PSK module for the 6000 box, or one of the new upcoming HDTV boxes.
As far as DirectTV, at this point they are keeping the current QPSK modulation, to prevent compatability problems with HD boxes already out, so I suspect that they will find it more difficult to come up with more bandwidth for HDTV, however I guess they could have a sat waiting?
