Cox Tulsa

Cox now has the HDTV page updated for Tulsa. It does include the rental of the box. I believe we will see a similiar pricing scheme and service here in OKC, hopefully. This is really good news, I hopefully will be able to get a HD box with DVI out. Time will tell.

Thanks for the heads up on this Cox development. I too look forward to OKC coming around to renting the boxes. Strange that OKC gets Cox HD first but with conditions and Tulsa finally rolls out HD but does it the right way first time around.

I just think it sad that OKC Cox can not get anything together. Not only do they not have the information on the site anymore but there emails are becomming stupid as well. I think it is hilarious that they can get their stuff together in every other location but here in OKC. I dont mean to sound so rude or upset its just that this is getting realy…well I dont have the words for it.

Some one should call COX in Tulsa and verify which HD boxes they are renting out and if the box has DVI out.

Any one heard if there will be any credit at all for those of us who bought the original STB?

I believe it will be this box:

    DCT 5100

There is a user manual and more information at the bottom of the page.

I am set up for next Thursday Aug 7. I asked about DVI, and was told it wouldn’t be enabled at first, but probably would at a later date. I’m not sure why. If the firmware is ready to go, why not enable it? Unless there are still issues with copy protection to be hammered out. I saw an alarming item on Cox’s web page: all output will be initially be converted to 1080i?!! Is this true? Why on earth would they disable 720p? These two things make no sense to me.

Maybe the box only support 1080i and not 720p. Maybe someone can take a look at the manual after they get setup.

The box itself can do 720p. I’m hoping the info I saw is outdated. I can’t believe they would convert ABC and ESPN to 1080i before sending it out. I’m going to try and get ahold of a tech guy Monday. I’m happy about getting the the service and fine with the pricing (except that $50 mandatory install fee>:( ) , but DVI and 720p give the best picture on my TV by far…

They should pass 720p native because some HDTVs can not do 1080i.

They don’t have to the ones that don’t do 1080i convert to 720p just like the ones that don’t do 720p convert to 1080i. So 720p only t.v’s can still watch 1080i it will just suck because cox will convert to 1080i from 720p and then the t.v will convert back to 720p

Gotta take baby steps on new technology. Start with 1080i to make sure it works. 720p is coming, we just have to wait a bit. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

I would figure for a person being on the edge of technology that one would pay the price for it

OKC seems to be doing fine. Tulsa uses a Motorola platform and the boxes are readily available. Cox OKC is waiting for Scientific Atlanta to manufacture enough of the 3250 boxes to stock them. I think it’s nice of Cox to wait a little and rent out the latest technology to us instead of dumping out stuff they know will be obsolete. Remember this kind of technology is JUST starting. In probably two years or less you’ll buy a tv with the converter built right into the set like a regular tuner.

    Peace
