Wichita Falls/Lawton HD Push?

Hello,

I was wondering if there is any word from the stations serving Wichita Falls and Lawton regarding expanding to HD? We’re right in the middle of OKC and Dallas/Fort Worth (both with lots of HD stuff), but unfortunately out of range for either. I know the local CBS station does broadcast HD, but Fox and NBC only do digital and ABC from Lawton is dragging its feet with no digital as of yet.

Just wishing for some better programming,
Chris

I would try to get a waiver from your Fox affiliate because DirecTV will carry Fox HD. Do you have DirecTV or Dish?

I currently have DISH. Hopefully that choice wasn’t a mistake down the road. I’ve not heard of any new HD programming out of DISH in a while.

Ok They keep that stuff pretty closely guarded.

Which DMA are you actually in? If you are in the WF/Lawton DMA, you should definitely push to get a waiver from CBS and Fox. Fox was very easy to get where CBS was a bit harder but eventually got. Lawton’s plans, KSWO (ABC) are July 2004 for Standard Digital programming available on 11-1. No date for HD content though. However, this date has changed a lot so don’t bet on it. As far as other HD content is concerned, the Chief Engineer at KFDX (NBC)and KJTL (FOX) stated that they will most likely not got HD until they are forced too by the FCC (est. 2006-2007). Cost being the main reason for the HD delay. Good news is KAUZ (CBS) is broadcasting some HD content but is low power as well as all of the WF/Lawton digital channels are. To make a long story short, it is probably going to be a long time before WF/Lawton DMA begin broadcasting staedy HD content. As HiDefSooner stated, your best bet is to get waivers so you can receive them via satellite. I will let everyone know when I get more info.

Just note that CBS HD is available on DirecTV and Dish. At this time the upcoming Fox HD will only be on DirecTV. None of the other networks have their HD channel on satellite.

Exactly !!! Dish will not be your best bet if you cannot receive OTA/Network locals. As HiDefSooner stated, DirecTV will offer CBS and FOX HD NY/LA channels. Just something to keep in mind if you cannot receive your locals via cable/antenna.
