Tivo

with my new tivo unit the pic seems more fuzzy than the old standard hughes reciever they replaced. Has anyone else ever noticed that with theres? Or should I call directv and see if they should swap out. They installed a phillips dvr, dont know much about the phillips brand.

I think there are some setting that compresses the video but don’t quote me on it.

Yes set the quality you want to record at it is preset at medium I think. Unless you have a directv-tivo I don’t believe you can change the setting on that one.

There are several settings that affect (effect?) the pic quality.

First and foremost is the compression setting. This is found under TiVo Central> Messages & Setup. under Recording QUality, You can do Basic, Medium, High and Best. I use Medium, the perfect blend of quality and compression. Some prefer High for action movies.

The place that causes my video to be blurry only affects RF channels, and this option turned off usually helps esp if the RF/Antenna channels are staticy.
