Reception

I live 4.4 Miles from the tower at 220 degrees. I can get channels 4 and 5 however channel 9 is impossible to tune. My TV has scanned the channel and knows that it is out there, but when I try to tune it I get a no signal message.

I’ve heard it it possible to get to strong of a signal. Is that possibly your problem?

I don’t know if it is possible to cause a dropout from signal "overload" but it will cause "ringing" a sort of ghostlike image [differant from ghosting cause by multipath]. I have had times when I got a indicator on the meter with no picture or sound from several channels — repeated trying to reprogram the tuner took care of that. Could the signal be somehow altered by another tower so close to the sending tower that there is a null where the receiving antenna is located?

My Zenith HDV420 OTA tuner came with a 10 db signal attenuator for reducing the signal strength in case the signal was too strong. I am not sure if Rat Shack carries these or not.

You can buy antenuaters at Radio Shack.
