Suddenlink Adding HDNet and HDNet Movies in Stillwater

Suddenlink Communications is adding HDNet and HDNet Movies in June for Stillwater customers. The changes were announced Monday at the Stillwater City Council meeting. Perhaps this is good news for other former Cox Cable affiliates in rural Oklahoma.

Sounds great. Suddenlink systems in Texas never add or do anything. I wondered what would happen when Suddenlink bought some more advanced Cox systems.
31 digital simulcast channels below 100, on Time Warner in Waco, as of today. Unlike some other TW systems Waco is degitizing local analog stations. Three so far. Heck, we’re gonna mess around and catch up with Comcast.
HDNet recently joined TNTHD and Discovery HD as part of basic digital package on TW systems. HDNetMovies is still extra cost HD tier. I don’t know why.

Suddenlink is also deleting the Tulsa CBS affiliate, KOTV channel 6 and replacing it with, of all things, the Jewelry Channel (!!!). I don’t like that at all.

However, I DO like that they are adding CSTV (College Sports TV). I wish they would add ESPN-U too, though.

OK, I know these things are not HD-related.

    Poke,

Will CSTV be part of a basic digital package on Suddenlink? CSTV is part of an extra pay sports package on Time Warner and Grande in Waco.
A few months ago I read that CBS bought CSTV. And of course, CBS doesn’t want any of their stuff on an extra pay tier.

I don’t have access at the moment to the stuff I read on that topic. What I do remember is the channel number for CSTV: 133. It is taking the place of something called Fit TV.

I THINK that CSTV will be part of the basic digital cable package but I’m not at all certain on that (sorry).

Thanks, Poke. I’m sure it’s part of basic digital if it’s replacing FitTV. But if Suddenlink is stripping channels for new channels, one must wonder about their bandwidth capabilities.
I have a feeling when contracts run out with various cable companies, CSTV will become part of basic digital cable.
Baylor and Sooner basketball women played on CSTV at least once last season.

The only currently scheduled for TV in 2006 OSU football game is on CSTV this fall. I don’t remember which one, but it’s obviously not in HD.

I’m pretty sure the Jewelry channel is part of the lowesst basic package. Also, if I’m not mistaken, only the Oklahoma City ABC, NBC and CBS affiliates are carried in HD in Stillwater; none of the Tulsa digital stations are carried here.

The Jewelry Channel pays for carriage on cable systems, usually in commissions form, as does Home Shopping Network. Jewelry is usually on lifeline basic or expanded basic cable.
In Waco, Jewelry is on crystal clear digital ch 99 (analog without STB on ch 99) on Time Warner.
I appreciate you guys updating me on Suddenlink in Oklahoma. Some Central Texas Suddenlink systems aren’t even digital yet, and have yet to string a single meter of fiber.
