OETA page about HDTV
I noticed last night that OETA now has a page that discusses their HD programming. The page even discusses Cox cable. Does this mean that OETA HD via Cox is imminent?

I wonder if that means they’ll only be on Cox 24/7 or if they’ll expand their OTA broadcasts. I can only record one OTA program at a time so often I’d like to record the rebroadcast of shows like Frontline or American Experience. But since they off the air at midnight, that’s often not possible with a 2-hour show that starts at 11 p.m.

Just 2 days ago Cox Tulsa told me they had no plans for new HD, Then again they also said TNT HD was a great channel and that TNT HD doesn’t strech it’s shows.
The channel 13 OETA analog transmitter did go 24/7 on June 1st as part of their conversion to digital. Cox no longer has the monopoly on 24/7 OETA. Now our small dish systems have OETA 24/7. I noticed a bit more digital artifacting during the evening news on Directv. I hope it’s not due to compression settings for the eventual local OTA programming on 13-1.
24/7 PBS-HD on COX is planned. I was hoping it would start by now. A call to the OETA receptionist confirmed that the 4 separate channels mentioned on their web site wouldn’t be happening for awhile. Maybe someone can get a good estimate of when that will occur. Until then, enjoy PBS-HD on OTA channel 13-1 while it lasts (they still shut the digital transmitter down after midnight.)
Some HD programming is mentioned on the web for the OTA OETA transmitter, but how will it fit?
OETA Main will duplicate the analog
OETA Okla will show Oklahoma state programs
OETA You is instructional plus a 7-10 PM 1 day "OETA Main" delay during prime-time.
OETA Kids for children’s programs plus PBS news programming at 10 PM.
Since the stations operate at various evening times, it’s anyone’s guess on how enough bandwidth will be available for HD. Maybe they will use the Main, Okla and Kids digital space for HD during prime-time. Hopefully some OTA full bandwidth HD programming will occur after midnight.

I will make some phone calls on Monday and see what I can find out.
Oh, really? Have they ever watched what they are broadcasting?
When Cox introduced TNTHD, they had literature that said OETAHD "coming soon"
Yes I got that flyer in the mail as well. Also a test channel is showing up past the 700’s now, that happened before TNT appeared.
From what I gather "soon" we will lose much of the combination widescreen and HD programing to the likes of older SD programs. I think that would be terrible. To carry PBS KIDS and the like the currant line up would be sacrifice to allow multiplexing.
a couple of days ago OETA did a special on digital 1 and their analog station bragging about their new digital service.
three things I cought among all the interesting things they had on the program
1] they “can carry up to six channels” at a time.
2] they want one of these to be repeats of the main carriers programing
from the night before. In case you “hear about a great program
the next day that you missed”
3] after telling which channels on FOX in OKC and Tulsa you can watch
OETA-HD [meaning 24 HD] they emcee said “We’re not on satellite
yet but we will be soon” while showing a DISH TV dish on screen.
Their web says “click here” if you have over the air digital reception and shows 5 channnels; one HD 24 hours. This is misleading since you can not get that 5th channel over the air no matter how many ways you try to program the receiver.
any one else see the show?
I watched that show a couple of months ago. The production values were very good, but like you say they still really don’t get it. If they wanted to do a service to Oklahomans, they’d have only two channels — the OETA-HD channel and a channel showing the repeats they want us to watch.
OETA is doing a better job now than they were when they went to four SD channels. Now, they show 3-4 hours a day of HD programming — more when their equipment is messed up — compared to 4-5 hours a week when they first switched to multicasting four channels.
