Directv announced it has expanded its HD sports programming with HD regional sports networks. HD games are now available in 13 major markets, with six more markets to launch in coming weeks.
I went ahead and posted this even though I don’t think we will see this in Oklahoma anytime soon. These games will be available to DirecTV subscribers using MPEG4 boxes and will be available regionally by spotbeam satellites. Once they get the new satellites up next year they may broadcast them nationally as part of a national HD Sports Package.

EXCELLENT!!!!!
The final straw that will probably tip the scales in favor of DTV in my market; Boston.
Up until now you had to have a set top box from Adelphia or Comcast to enjoy the Red Sox, Bruins, or Celtics in HD. All ESPN games were “not available in your area” blackouts. That left the odd FOX game during the regular season as being the sole HD offering for DISH/DTV customers.
I wont be surprised by much lower cable rates for packages that include HD. I can’t think of any other reason why I would go with cable vs a sattelite provider unless the price point is DRASTICALLY different.
Now if the Sox can just stay ahead of the Yankees and Blue Jays all will be good in Red Sox Nation.
