Almost forgot about Woody and the Boss…
OETA is carrying two great shows tonight…
- Woody Guthrie: Ain’t Got No Home airs tonight at 8 p.m. on OETA. “The music is at the core of what it means to be an American,” says Bruce Springsteen of the work of folk-music icon Woody Guthrie (1912-67), who is recalled via archival footage, photos and recordings.
- Following that, Bruce Springsteen: The Seeger Sessions Live at St. Luke’s will air from 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. At St. Luke’s Church in London, Bruce Springsteen and his Seeger Sessions Band perform folk-music classics, mixing rock, blues, country, ragtime and folk to deliver a glorious gumbo of American music.
The could possibly be the greatest night in PBS HD history…

Both shows last night were outstanding.
Even though I’ve read Woody’s autobiography and Joe Klein’s biography of Woody, I still learned a lot about Woody Guthrie’s life through this wonderful portrait on American Masters.
The Springsteen concert was also awesome. I really like the Seeger Sessions album and this was that performance in its finest glory. They must have had 50 musicians on stage all jamming throughout the hour-long performance.
Neither show is currently scheduled to repeat in HD, but the American Masters shows often get scheduled during the day when they can’t fill the schedule.
