Cox Test Channels

This has been covered in the Forums, but perhaps it needs more visibility…

One of our readers wrote:

“Cox OKC has set up ten new test channels on channels 850 through 860. Because they immediately follow the HD channels I am wondering whether they will be HD channels, too. I had to have some new cable wiring done today and when I asked the Cox tech about it he told me that Cox was planning on adding new HD channels this fall but he didn’t know what they were.”

The short answer, as tracked down by HiDefSooner, is: “There are plans to add more HD channels by the end of the year but none of the test channels are HD channels.”

I just talked to a cox tech about the test channels who came out to my house yesterday . He said that they are channels that are being converted to digital from the analog expanded basic line-up. He said that Cox-7, Nick, Disney, Weather Channel, and one other are already digital and that about 44 others will soon become digital. Using a cable card, Disney is no longer available in my analog channels and is now in my digital channels with the same number as it used to be in analog. So I am assuming that if you only use the analog signal, the new digital channels will be converted to analog???
