KOCB and KAUT in Norman

Herbert Skidmore writes:

I have recently installed an outdoor antenna in order to receive KOCO over the air transmission. No indoor antenna that I tried would work here in north Norman (Tecumseh Road and Porter). Reception is great for KOCO. Other Norman HD users say I am lucky. However, I have scanned several times, and am unable to receive KOCB (33) or UPN (40). Any suggestions?

The antenna I installed is the Stealthtenna 3010 from Lowe’s

Thanks for the great service you provide at this Website.

If you can receive KOCO as well as UHF stations you should definitely be able to receive KOCB and KAUT as they both broadcast Very strong signals here in Moore.

I don’t know what kind of tuner/tv you have. Is it possible to enter the channels manually by broadcast channel? In other words, can you enter a channel manually besides the autoscan function?

  2. zcam responds:

I noticed on my over the air antenna KOCB HD signal has moved to 34-1 while KAUT is 43-1. UPN has merged into the CW and is now KOCB. I live on the very southwest side of Moore close to Norman and I have no trouble receiving over the air signals with my radio shack antenna VU-90 XR. I installed it in my attic by simply hanging it from the beams and I have very high strength on all local HD over the air channels. You might try changing out your antenna with the one from radio shack($59). Hope this helps.

  3. CapeCodSooner responds:

I took a look at the antenna you purchased and it looks like it should be able to do the job.

If you did not already do it, take a look at http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx

You can type in your exact address if you like a or ZIP code only to get a gauge of what type of antenna is required based upon your distance from the transmitters in Edmond.

In this case it would look like N. Porter and Tecumseh should be able to use the Stealth for most signals.

Is it possible to mount the antenna any higher? Are you in a small valley or dip out that way? Any tall buildings or trees?

I no longer live in Norman but out near the Postal Training Facility I was going to have to get up high AND go with the strongest antenna I cold find.

DTV may be an option in the coming months as well……if you want ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX only.

  4. servicetech responds:

I know this sounds like a no brainer but the TAIL of the antenna is pointed towards the tower right? I’ve seen a bunch of antennas installed backwards, just look at the roofs next time you go somewhere.

  5. modem_man responds:

I live in Norman near HW 9 (close to Atwoods).
Thank you for the suggestion of the stealthantenna. I’m finally able to get the ABC-HD. I’m also able to get all the channels u’re missing with the same antenna.

I hope that you’re able to get the channels u’re missing.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

  6. modem_man responds:

Did you try putting in an ChannelMaster Indoor Amplifier? I tried it without the amplifier, and the signal is weak. After I place the amplifier in, signal was nice and strong.

  7. servicetech responds:

I just took a look at the Stealthtenna 3010 and it seems like it would be almost be omnidirectional by design. I’ve found the omnidirectional designs (even the expensive ones) don’t work very well, especially for analog.
I live in NE Moore and have had MUCH better luck with a simple VU-75 from Radio Shack. Be sure to use RG6 coax to connect the antenna with. No preamp and 5 devices connected to it, excellent reception on analog and digital.

  8. gbeaty responds:

Does anyone live west of I-35, south of 240, east of Penn. in Moore, been able to get the KOCO DT signal with kind of VHF antenna???

  9. servicetech responds:

I live 2 miles East of I35, just south of 240 and get channel 5 perfectly with a Radio Shack VU-75 on the roof of the house. Only about a 10 degree difference from where you live.

  10. HDdizzy responds:

I am the original poster of this message, and I realized that the street I live on does not run true North/South. I adjusted the antenna accordingly, and now all works great. I can now recommend the Stealthtenna 3010 to anyone in North Norman. I am also using the PHD-101 Digital Tuner from PrimeDTV Technologies. My television is almost 4 years old, and of course did not have an internal tuner. This tuner is working quite well, the price was right ($160.00). Thanks for all the input. Hope I have helped others.

  11. gbeaty responds:

lWell I give up !!! got vu-90 which is the replacement for the vu-75, got a small pre-amp, put the antenna in the attic set it per AntennaWeb, and I get all OTA Digital channels, except for KOCO !!! Get the analog channels 5 and 9, but it won’t even detect 5.1 on a channel scan. Guess my only choice is the hope KOCO and Cox will get it together, which probably won’t happen, or go with the Possible VHFDTV reception solution posted on this web site. Which is what i should have done in the first place.

  12. Sooner Al responds:

I installed a Channel Master STEALTHtenna 3010 this morning in my attic. I can now receive KOCO-DT on Channels 5.1 and 5.2 just fine and the regular KOCO Channel 5 signal also OTA. This is with no external amplifier I might add…

I live on the south side of Norman just west of 12th Ave SE about a mile south of OK Highway 9, which is down by the golf course…

Hopefully the OU-Texas A&M game will be in HD…:-)

    Boomer Sooner…

  13. Sooner Al responds:

I forgot to add that the antenna feeds a Panasonic TH-50PX6U with in internal tuner. I also am a Cox HDTV subscriber…

  14. gbeaty responds:

I moved my VU80 antenna out of my attic and onto the roof, yesterday and got KOCO 5-1. but today it won’t lock in says signal is too weak !!! wouldn’t you know..
