Dallas Station WFAA-DT Offers Local News in HD

Bobarino supplied the following:

WFAA in Dallas now broadcasting local news in HD

Comment: Since Dallas is a top 5 market, that means Oklahoma City should get its first HD local news sometime in 2015. :-)

  1. nocaster responds:

This would be a great opportunity for the first station to brag about being “The First HD News Broadcast in Oklahoma”.

  2. Mikey responds:

I questioned KWTV about that a couple of weeks ago. I asked when they would start doing news and weather in HD, since they constantly brag about their new helicopter, “News9-HD”. Julie’s answer was more or less “we don’t know”. They need to replace “several millons of dollars” worth of equipment to do live HD news.

  3. doublej responds:

And Griffin must do that in Tulsa and OKC for 3 stations, and they have not even got KQCW set up for their own digital signal yet. They are using the subchannel from KOTV and have no plans to do the upgrade until the analog cutoff. Personally I don’t even see them doing it then, I think KQCW is going to remain a subchannel of KOTV for a very long time.

Go to this websight and read:

In Early November 2006, KWTV began using a brand-new, state-of-the-art news set, specially designed for high-definition broadcasting. The set was designed and built by FX Group
We will see when kwtv goes HD.

  5. ggore responds:

KWTV doesn’t even put PSIP information in their DT feed, and is the only station in the OKC market to not do Dolby Digital 5.1 in their audio feed, so the latest technology is not their first priority unless it’s in the weather dept. Channel 9’s new news set is beautifully done and would look great in HD, but we’ll probably never get to see it that way.
