Items of interest…

Al writes:

1. Why are oeta 13 and ksbi 52(?) both down now, april 2?

KETA-DT was on the air as of around 5:15 p.m. KSBI-DT was down…

2. What do KFOR, KOCO, and KWTV need to stay hi-def during bad weather? Do they need a hi-def character generator? How much money? When do you expect them to bite the bullet and actually buy it?

I’m no expert, but KFOR-DT is the only only one of the three main stations that seems to switch to SD weather maps on a regular basis. The NBC affiliate in Tulsa has an HD package that they can overlay on top of the NBC HD programming.

Al also wondered about posting stuff on this site. As he did, you can click on the Contact Us link near the top of the middle column to send a comment or tip that I’ll review and post on the site. If you need a faster response, use the Forums link under Main Pages in the far right hand column.

I have not been able to get 52 digital at all for some time and 13 breaks up constantly. This happed several weeks ago after all that wind. Strange thing is that many of the stations meter reading is 100 now. I thought it damaged the antenna but it should affect all stations if so. The antenna does not appear to have been turned; still I tried rotating it several directions with no improvement.

Have not turned it on tonight but I have lost all stations and had to reboot the Dish tuner to get them back on.

    1. KETA:
I have had the same breakups (several per minute) for about a month now also on my Dish receiver even though the signal says 100%. I attributed it to a new software version that Dish pushed out because the ATSC tuner in my Samsung TV has no problem tuning the station. However, if others are having the same breakup problems with KETA it may be something to do with the signal they are sending out.

    2. KSBI has been having problems with their digital broadcasts for some time now. Even when it was working the sound volume was terrible, sometimes loud and distorted, sometimes inaudible. Other than HS football they have little content that is popular so no one really complains.

I wonder what these and other stations are going to do when analog broadcasting ceases 20 months from now? Are they just going to go out of business and give up their licenses or are they going to sell?

  3. trueview responds:

I noticed the absence of complaints as well and when KTBO went 4 subs and a main I could see a lower picture quality yet I nor anyone else mentioned anythingl There are a few LP stations that have made no attempt to go digital that I am aware of ~ I wonder if they will just pass away.

  4. trueview responds:

Yesterday I discovered that I am no longer having a problem with KSBI DT; now if only they would get some HD programing. KETA is still a problem I am going to try complaining to DISH and see if they offer a solution; if they do I will add another post.

  5. trueview responds:

Dish Network techs are telling me that there is nothing about there receiver that plays apart in which channels can be picked up off air or how good a signal is received. Maybe I will try turning the antenna some more.
