Why does KOCO not broadcast Wheel of Fortune in HD?

  1. Bobarino responds:

    My Guess is,

They don’t want to. Seems like none of our local broadcasters have really embraced HDTV but rather see it as a burden. I wonder what the ratings would look like if one of our local broadcasting stations decided to really commit to HD, local news and all?

  2. Kevin Sherrard responds:

Wheel of Fortune is a syndicated show which means it is download via satellite for later playback. KOCO would to invest money into a HD playback system.

  3. doublej responds:

I was surprised when KJRH in Tulsa made the upgrades. Back in July of last year they were pretty sure they would not do it. Then all of sudden Wheel and Jeopardy started appearing HD and the weather graphics were overlaid on the HD feed and they didn’t have to drop to sd during storms.. Now if there was just more syndicated programming available in hd.

  4. ggore responds:

It’s probably a combination of factors: KOCO has the weakest signal, shortest antenna height, and a godawful transmitter pattern that sends 90% of the signal off towards Tulsa, which we’re going to have to endure for another two years. It boils down to if only a small fractiion of your market area can receive your signal, why spend the money to put out a full-quality product.

There are a lot of syndicated programs in HD, go to Kansas City or Dallas and you’ll see quite a bit of it on the stations that have invested in the satellite receivers to pull it down.

  5. inteller responds:

Well I have to say WoF is a great use of HD. The colors are SO much more vibrant and everything just stands out.

I have to say this though…it must be very cold in that studio, because now you can see things sticking out on the women contestants that you couldnt see in SD :D
