tonight OETA has chosen to show us they can do HD [except for a clitch during the first show]. If only they would do this EVERY night. So I am watching OETA and listening to KGOU carrying their yearly coast to coast live jazz concerts.

Do more kids buy high definition television receivers than adults or are they saying someing negative about their digital viewing audience?

I noticed the duel childrens programing too. Although PBS KIDS and PBS & YOU are feeds from PBS and they have no control over what is provided they could choose not to carry them. I never understood how much programing could be available for the dedicated Oklahoma Channel.

I wouldn't blame Sony. OETA has the only channels in this market that switch from two subchannels to four multiple times per day.

Honestly, I don't think we need a dedicated Oklahoma channel and during the day we have children's programming on OETA 13-1 and 13-4. There simply isn't enough programming to have four subchannels.

Both my Dish 6000 and Dish 811 HD receivers freak out when the subchannels change. I don't think the TV and ATSC tuner manufacturers ever thought the number of channels would change during the day.

I know it was a waste of time but I e-mailed PBS and told them that we know they have created a lot of great HD programs but when they reach the Oklahoma state line most of them meet a U-turn sign.

The whole HD thing is a debacle the way it's been handled by OETA. They purport to be Public Television for ALL of Oklahoma, yet the only people allowed to watch PBS-HD are those in Oklahoma City. And having to totally reprogram my TV every time I want to watch something in HD on OETA is ridiculous. Though this is Sony's fault for not providing a way to add a subchannel without going through a 30-minute process, I would just rather have the HD on all the time and do without one of the current subchannels.

I have been recording "The Desert Speaks" on OETA HD, ie. Cox Channel 713, in the 5 PM CST time slot and noticed that last Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday OETA preempted that and had the news hour on. Unfortunately the picture was scrambled and there was no audio. I did not notice this until I got home yesterday from a trip and went back to watch that episode of the Desert Speaks. That was the only time it happened. I forgot to mark the exact day because I just went ahead and erased it and went on to the next recorded episode of the Desert Speaks.

Bottom line is it looks like the news hour may be coming soon as noted by the email I received from OETA last week.

and it is hopeless to think PBS-HD will come to Dish. I do not think PBS worries much about how much HD a local station carrys but you would like that it would. E-mails to PBS result in a hand-off reply that avoids answering the question all together.

Last night they went from one HD program to another switching to SD right after announcing that you were watching "OETA HD".

Even if OETA carried the show in HD I wouldn't see it because I view the local stations Over The Air ONLY.

Sorry OETA, I rarely watch you anymore.

That's something. It was letterboxed yesterday, but I didn't have a chance to see if it's letterboxed nationwide.

I got an email back yesterday afternoon from a lady at OETA who said they would be adding the Newhour to the HD lineup in early January. No specific date though.

OETA by it's own choice remains in the stone age while the network it is affilated with continues to advance in HD broadcasting. They need new management with a eye tuned tothe future. I feel the same about pax.

Right now, I record NBC's news cast and watch it about half the time. I would record the Newshour instead if OETA carried it...

I don't know but I just sent OETA an email asking about this. If I hear back before someone else chimes in I will post their answer.

It would be nice to have..
