HD Channels in Lawton

Justin writes:

Hi I am in the military so I am new to Lawton, OK. I purchased DISH and was shocked to see that the 4 major networks are not in HD. Do you have any info on how long it will be until they are in HD, or how to get them in HD? Thank you.

  1. Dennis Whiteman responds:

I’m not completely sure of their HD status, but the digital transmitters are not in Lawton proper. If I remember correctly, they’re in Grandfield, which is southwest of Lawton. Not sure about cable down there…

  2. doublej responds:

Yep put up an antenna or “move” your service address to a city on the 129 sat.

To my understanding, each of the local markets are being changed over to HD one by one. At this point, I’m not sure there are too many markets beyond the top 50 that have HD locals available at this time. Since Wichita Falls is a 149 market, it’s probably going to take awhile before HD locals are available. In the meantime, I believe you can receive HD networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox) even without having HD locals. What this means is that you receive the direct network feed without local commericals or local news. This is the quick-fix for these markets, if I’m not mistaken. Otherwise, you will just have to wait until the other 148 markets have been converted over. Dish network typically goes in decending order when adding local channels to it’s satellites. (Eg. Odessa/Midland, TX - market 157 - was only added to Dish Network about 1 year ago.)
