Dish HD is indeed back and it a big way. They had added USA, CNN and SIFI several weeks ago and it never seemed to rate a mention here, but today was a surprise. I had added all the 6000 numbers and then later discovered they ;had more located elsewhere. Smithonian wow. what can be next? I lost tract of what Directv is doing so I do not know how they compare at this point.

NO I do not like every thing they added today; I still think is great.

I made a typo above.I meant 9000 channels rather than 6000. With the HD so scattered I converted one of the favorites list to HD only. I guess DISH has to discontinue putting them all in one group.

They removed the best of Voom.

They still kept Monsters-HD and Equator which I thought were 2 of the best.
I would have liked to keep Gallery-HD just to watch ‘Concrete Canvas’

There is a lawsuit in progress between Voom and Dish.
Apparently their contract requires Voom to spend at least 100 million per year on programming and they haven’t been doing that.

And it has now been said they will remove the rest of Voom.

The loss of the Voom channels certainly took some of the steam out of the total count.I liked the two movie channels that were dropped and do not want to lose Equator and monster channels. It does not add up to just dump them.

All Voom channels are now gone from Dish Network.

Dish confimed the worst today in an e-mail that was surprisingly detailed compared to what you normally get for a response. But there was nothing in it as to why they pulled the plug. Did VOOM belly up?WasDISH simply unable to add anything without the space VOOM took? Did VOOM draw fewer viewers than desired?

Contrary to DISH’s enthousiam I did not like loosing several channels I enjoyed for a 24 HD fishing channel. In fact I feel poorer for the exchange all tho some were channels the wife watches.

What will be added next and will it pay to “watch what comes in the next few weeks”?

Of the channels Dish added this week, DirecTV does not carry five: ABC Family, 5Star Max, Hallmark Movie Channel, Travel Channel and World Fishing Network. ABC Family will be added when DirecTV11 is activated this fall and Hallmark Movie Channel should be added, along with the Hallmark Channel. There’s no word on the Travel Channel, and nothing has been said about adding any more Cinemax channels, although anything is possible. AS for World Fishing…. um, who cares?

Whaqt does DirecTV have that Dish does not?

    Country Music TV
    CBS College Sports
    Fox Business Network
    Fuel TV
    FX Network
    HBO West
    Nickelodeon
    Showtime West
    ShowToo
    Speed TV
    Spike
    Starz Comedy
    Starz Edge
    Starz Kids and Family
    Starz West
    The Movie Channel
    VH1

    Continuing the DirecTV list:

    RSNs:

    MSG
    MSG Plus
    YES

A comparison chart at C|Net indicated that DirecTV has 104 total HD channels to Dish Network’s 80. The chart can be found here: http://www.cnet.com/4520-7874_1-5108854-5.html?tag=lnav

I don’t like the counting of multiple premium channels into the number of HD channels. With that logic Cox should get credit for 14 Starz channels since I have 14 Starz HD On Demand movies available (soon expanding to over 40). Does that mean in October when Cox launches HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax HD On Demand that we should give them credit for nearly 60 HD premium channels.

Plus why count channels like CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV). Even their reps will tell you they don’t currently carry games in HD — although I believe they will this fall.

A separate peeve, on DirecTVs web site they count Versus and Golf HD as two separate channels even though Versus/Golf HD is one channel.

It appears Dish wanted to leave 5 channels up and Voom said it was all or nothing, so Dish went ahead and removed the rest of them the next day.

I fully agree comparisions should not include premium channels since these are extra but it seems that this is done to up the numbers. I have these so in a sense I have the higher count but since there were no new ones I liked the totals mean little. Smithonian and MGM was the only new ones that carry full time HD as far as I could tell by channel surfing.

Thank youto those who were able to shed some light with the Voom situration. Maybe they willl yet work a deal since it makes more sense for both DISH and VOOM to so.

Any of you try the VOOM site? They have posted a full screen image for DISH viewers with a plea to take any complaints to DISH directly since they feel DISH carries complete blame for the situation.
