Oklahoma Memorial Stadium Going HD

OU is getting a new scoreboard that will have a 16 mm HD capable video system for the 2008 football season. They are also updating Soonervision cameras to HD as well. This presents some interesting questions if they are going to frame the shots for 16:9? How does this effect the Sooner Football replay shows and the Bob Stoops show?

Since not one of the OKC stations has the capability of doing local-origination HD programming, I would expect this to have no effect at all on the Bob Stoops show as we know it. Also not one of the OKC stations has or has announced the capability of showing HD syndicated programming, which includes the Bob Stoops show.

I was in Kansas City a while back and it was great to see local news in HD, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, 2 1/2 men, and other syndicated programming in HD. Most syndicated programming will be available to local stations this fall in HD, including Ellen, Oprah, and others, but our stations don’t have the capability to show it. The one Tulsa station that has local HD capability might be able to show these programs in HD, but we will be stuck as we are. Sad.

  2. Sooner Al responds:

I thought, and I certainly could be wrong about this, the Bob Stoops show was recorded on campus. I also thought Cox did the recording under contract to OU and Soonervision.
