KFOR problems

I am curious if other cable operators or users are having problems receiving KFOR-DT UHF 27.

At 5:40 p.m., it’s working fine for NBC Nightly News in HD. Yesterday, it worked great for the entire 5 hours or so of the Men’s final at Wimbledon plus rain delays. I know for a fact that Suddenlink was broadasting it because I talked to a friend about it during the match and he only has cable.

  2. ggore responds:

Our Drake DQT1000 8VSB-QAM processors refuse to lock onto the signal straight off the antenna, and I have tried 5 different processors. A $48 Magnavox DT converter from Wal Mart works just fine. Drake says there must be something weird going on with KFOR’s stream, but don’t know what it could be. Yesterday I took a Polaroid 19″ LCD TV to the tower and it would not lock onto KFOR’s signal. Worked fine on every other OKC channel.

  3. Bobarino responds:

ggore: KFOR did have some equipment problems lately, a week or 2 ago.

They lost HD capability and were even stretching the SD picture.
Apparently they received their new replacement equipment parts and can now broadcast HD and SD is not stretched anymore.

I wonder if some of their new equipment is not configured properly and sending out some weird PSIP data.

Have you contacted the KFOR engineering staff?

  4. ggore responds:

I contacted them last week, the engineer looked into a corrupted PSIP file as the possible culprit. It’s working now, so hopefully that was the problem. The engineer I spoke to was very helpful.

  5. Dennis Whiteman responds:

I’ve found that if you bring a problem to their attention they’re usually glad to know there’s a problem. With the turnoff just seven months away, they need to get all the kinks worked out…

    Dennis
