KWTV-DT Maintenance

From approximately 9 AM to 4 PM on Wed., Sept, 3, KWTV will be operating at reduced power from their auxiliary antenna. The purpose of this outage is to perform repairs to the transmission line system on the main antenna. If they complete the repairs early, full power operation will be resumed as soon as possible. The reason for the repair is that a crew became available and a leak in the transmission line is significant.

    ggore,

I wish I could have caught this quicker. I would be interested to know how Fedelity in Lawton fared with reduced power. They capture ch 9 off air at 90 miles with a single high VHF antenna 344′ up. I’m still amazed with their success. ch 13 HD is flawless too, my sister tells me.

I’ve looked at Dallas DT stations off air at 80 miles on a couple cable systems. Crystal clear. I like this new digital world.

The work is done, repairs successful, a temporary patch has been installed on their transmission, permanent repairs to be made at a later date. They also did some work a few days ago that upped their signal to noise ratio a few percent, which should help provide a more stable signal.

Thanks for keeping us up to date. I only wish KOCO could do something about their weak signal…

Dennis, I, too, would like to see KOCO-5 boost their signal strength to the north, but I keep wondering when KWTV-9 is going to start doing local news in HD.

Good heavens, they built a new set well over a year ago that just screams “we’re going to start doing local news in HD” but there has been no announcement about doing so.

I thought maybe it would start last January 1st (nice, easy-to-remember start date). Nope.

I thought then, well surely before the start of the 2009 TV season. Nope.

    So . . . when, KWTV???

I would imagine all the other stations will start doing HD newscasts when they realize people out here in the real world would rather watch an HD newscast than one that’s not. In other words, it’ll be a priority when they realize it’s negatively affecting their bottom line.

In our home it has already affected what we watch. I will no longer watch any local news that is not HD, because in my opinion KFOR had done a very nice job with HD locally.

Oddly, I had dinner with a friend who has never really cared about HD so said she watches KFOR and the Today show because they’re in HD. It’s the only TV she watches these days…

I find myself automatically turning to KFOR for news as well as OETA who also does local news in HD. Channel 5 and 9 are getting left behind.

KAUT CH43 has a 2 HR HD morning live news and entertainment show from 7 to 9 AM weekdays.

isn’t KAUT owned by the same people that own KFOR? If so they are at least willing to put some money into both satations.

I have to admit, I watch KFOR news all the time now too.

I seldom watched KFOR before they went to HD but now they are about all I watch for local news.

Their video of local news stories is so stunning that sometimes it seems like I am right at the spot of the news story.

It’s really good you guys are commenting. I’m sure it lets KFOR know that they made a good investment and it probably makes the other stations consider upgrades other than painting HD on the side of their helicopters. KWTV should really have added Dolby Digital by now…

I, too, find myself gravitating toward KFOR these days because of the HD local broadcast.

Of course, it’s a mistake to simply choose presentation over content, but since I don’t see much difference between the content of the various local stations, I’m definitely going to check out (and gravitate toward) the station offering content in HD.

It’s hard for me to imagine anyone with an HD set not doing the same . . . .

I went on vacation near Dallas last week, and all their local stations are HD news. I love that KFOR is the frontrunner in the switch to HD and watch their news because of it.

Just to pile on a little… Watching NFL today on channel 9 without 5.1 sound is so annoying. I’m guessing this has to do with the lack of Dolby mentioned above. These football broadcasts are almost impossible to listen to without the separation in the sound, you can’t hear the announcers.

Now I’m watching the Emmys on 9, and no 5.1. I was getting ready to email 9 to complain about it when I thought to check here. I guess there’s not a switch to flip like the locals used to forget to do in the early HD days. (I used to keep 5′s number handy every Tuesday bc they’d leave SD on for NYPD Blue until someone called.)

I thought we’d left all the nonsense behind. Oh, and Craig Ferguson, too

I have also switched to KFOR for news now that they are in HD. Why won’t 5 and 9 even talk about their timeline to go HD?
