i was afraid of that myself. just looks odd with 39-1 in the upper left corner when I turn it on and channel 9 in the bottom right corner.

when I reprogrammed the turner i found two more low power stations using digital transmission tho one just shows up on the turner listing but does not come in at all. yet channel 48 stays analog. I am asked a number of times, at work, when 30 will actually be in HD. I do not know -- does anyone have an idea? they advertise a lot about the HD and I wish they and Dish would take the hint for their sake -- they are Mexican and undstand the language.

I agree with your comments..BUT
Unfortunately they will continue to use "9" and NOT "39" for the foreseeable future..
I think, they think it will maintain their viewer loyalty.
The FCC data base currently shows a MIX of old and new channel numbers.
SO, maybe the stations will eventually get with the program and show their real/actual channel number !!!
BUT, don't hold your breath.

does this mean that "Big 9" [ups told my age] will id itself as channel 39? I wish all that did not revert to the origianal channel number or could not because their channel simply is no longer available would just say the actual channel they are using.

it would me nice to have the 5.1 surround alright. it has spoiled me.

Same here, I'd like to know which to set my Windows Media Center for. WMC picks up both feeds, not sure if they will relabel 9.2 to 9.1 and if the channel will need reprogrammed.

Hopefully we will have enough notice to make the switch. If we are REALLY lucky we might get 5.1 sound out of the deal (KWTV is the ONLY local network that doesn't)

But...once they stop broadcasting on VHF channel 9, won't they change UHF 39 to be "9-1" anyway?

Or is the advice simply that after the change, current 9-1 will go away and current 9-2 will still be there until they rescan?

(Just wanting to be clear...)

Hopefully, we'll have plenty of notice. My DVR failed to record CSI last night because of a weak signal on 9-1 so I've now switched it to 9-2.
