I’m not sure when it happened but KFORDT, KFORDT2, KOCODT, and KOCODT2 are currently available on two separate clear QAM channels in the OKC area, 84 and 116. Previously they were only on channel 84. I wonder if Cox is planning on moving those from 84 to 116 and they are keeping both alive until the change is permanent?
Is this the first time Cox has offered digital channels in the clear?

Nope. Cox has been transmitting QAM for a long time. I’ve been tuning with Vista and Windows 7 for almost 2 years now. It was rather problematic at first and they were moved a couple of times. I currently use a digital tuner to record shows on nights when the DVR is full.
Be on the lookout for the HDHomerun Cablecard tuner coming out in a couple of months. Works in any PC and does not have to be certified.
The HD Homerun w/cablecard will shake things up, especially if it is Linux compatible.
Not really. CableLabs requires encryption for any channels with copy once or copy never flags. Even though the new device from Silicondust uses a network interface rather than USB or PCI doesn’t mean that they don’t have to follow the same rules. The best you’d be able to get is anything you already can receive with a QAM tuner now. I’ve tried capturing video through FireWire on my STB and they have practically everything marked copy once or copy never. Even all the SD channels.
Looks like Cox finally did it. KFORDT, KFORDT2, KOCODT, and KOCODT2 are no longer on channel 84. They are only available on channel 116.
