KOCO-DT Broadcasting From New Antenna

KOCO-DT is broadcasting from their new antenna that is attached at the top of their tower. It looks like there is still some fine still tuning going on so if do have KOCO-DT in your channel guide it would be a good idea to do a rescan.

    Signal strength here in Stillwater at about 11 a.m. is just slightly less (87%) than KFOR-DT (89%) on one tuner and about the same as KWTV-DT (77%) on another. Potentially this is a very positive sign as I watched the last episodes of LOST and Flash Forward on my iPad because neither of my DVRs received stable enough recordings to watch.

    In my limited memory, I don’t recall ever receiving a signal that high this late in the year once the leaves on the trees have filled in. BTW, KWTV-DT’s signal on 9-2 has been very flakey on one of my tuners recently.

    It would be a good idea to re-scan. Actually unplug your antennae from your unit, do a scan that shows nothing. That clears out any previous entries. Plug antennae back in and re-scan. I think CH.9 is now a UHF frequency.

    We are having issues with the transmitter so we will not be at full strength just yet… but we all can tell it is a vast improvement.

    We are receiving a good solid signal strength now from 5-1, equal to 9-2. We have always received a good signal from both 9-2 and 9-1 (UHF 39) in northwest Oklahoma for some reason. It is nice to have a good over-the-air signal for KOCO once again after all these years.

    Could everyone give general locations of where they receive off the air signals?

    Southeast Norman here, about a mile south of OK-9 and just to the west of the Cobblestone Creek Golf Club.

    KOCO-DT [5.1] -> 88%
    KFOR-DT [4.1] -> 98%
    KWTV-DT [9.2] -> 98%

    The last I checked KOCO-DT signal strength was about 77% or so if I remember correctly, which is sometimes in doubt…:-)

    Downtown OKC (Mesta Park 23rd and Shartel – ish) using rabbit ears – yesterday and every day since conversion no picture.

    This morning at 7:00 Good Morning America –finally!

    I’m not sure how to check signal strength on my tv – but it looked as good as the other networks.

    In Cyril, OK which is about halfway between Chickasha and Lawton, with a 17 foot long Channel Master fifty feet in the air, I’m getting the following:
    KFOR – 4.1 – 98% KOKH – 25.1 – 100%
    KOCO – 5.1 – 99% KTUZ – 30.1 – 98%
    KAUZ – 6.1 – 57% KOCB – 34.1 – 100%
    KSWO – 7.1 – 55% KAUT – 43.1 – 99%
    KWTV – 9.1 – 93% KSBI – 52.1 – 89%
    KWTV – 9.2 – 99% KOPX – 62.1 – 78%
    KETA – 13.1 – 87%

    Hope this gives your an idea how KOCO travels out to it’s fringe boundary and how it compares with its counterparts.

    It’s nice to watch ABC on a channel that doesn’t pixel out and lock up about every five minutes or so.

    I am getting about 50% signal strength on my DirecTV HR 22 box. I may need to move my antenna in my attic. Since it has got hot my signal strength has been cut in half on my other channels.

    I forgot to add to my earlier comments that I am using a Channel Master STEALTHtenna Model 3010 up in my attic for OTA reception.

    The atmosphere is REALLY messed up this morning, we cannot receive KOCO-DT 7; cannot receive KOMI-DT 34-Woodward; but we are receiving WDAF, Fox 4 (UHF ch 34) in Kansas City, completely stable, 370 miles away!

    I still need to rescan on my Dish 211K receiver, but it failed to record “This Week…” this morning due to a poor signal. That show did record on my Mac-based EyeTV 500, but I’ve seen this before where it failed on one tuner or the other.

    while iI never had trouble getting channel “5′” they are 88 on my television — the highest rating of all tho some of the others are just sllightly lower. Something must be wrong because i live closer than some of you who have considerably higher numbers. And I use to have numbers in the 90′s. maybe my cable is loose or corroded and needs to be cleaned/replaced.

    Most Digital TVs show a “Signal Quality” rating, not a “Signal Strength”.
    A Ghost from a building or a structure, for instance would cause a reduction in
    “Signal Quality”. The signal strength could actually be stronger but would not result in a high reading.

    This is definitely an improvement over last summer here in Stillwater. I noticed a momentary glitch during the NBA finals game Tuesday, but nothing since. Overall, KOCO’s signal would seem to be more stable to me than KWTV’s UHF signal or even KETA’s VHF signal. Now if they’d just start broadcasting the news in HD…

    I’ve been having problems on my Dish VIP211K receiver so I rescanned yesterday. I now have 5-1, 5-2, 7-1 and 7-2 in my guide and the reception while showing a strong signal is very flaky.

    I would be satisfied with 7-1 and 7.2 rather that 7-3 and 7-4 since they are not really using 5 anymore. but all four of them? that sounds tedious.

    I can’t pick up KOCO at all now. I live in Edmond and have an attic antenna. When I rescan I don’t even pick it up. They may have made changes to help some people but they messed up other people.

    Is there something going on at KOCO? We are receiving a KOCO signal on UHF channel 26 here at our tower at Taloga. Is there a new translator signal that we don’t know about, or something else going on? It sometimes interferes with our ability to receive KFOR on channel 27, so I am thinking it must be something local in northwest Oklahoma. I haven’t been able to find out anything about this new development yet.
