Any news on a KAUT-DT program guide?

43-1 is on the air and looking good, but without any program guide data submitted to Tribune Media (and therefore to TiVo, Zap2It, etc.), all my HD TiVo shows is “regular schedule.” I can’t record anything by program name unless I stick with the hideously ugly DirecTV-retransmitted analog channel 43. That won’t take another 6 [...]

Does KFOR employ anyone who knows what HD is?

Just one week ago on this very site’s front page, I asked why KFOR-DT had broadcast 3 of 5 segments of the HDTV show My Name Is Earl in standard definition on channel 4-1. Other people noticed the problem, but other than a guess about weather maps, no one had an answer.

KFOR-DT in SD again

Is there some reason that KFOR-DT broadcast My Name is Earl in standard definition tonight? Or should we just petition NBC to change the graphics at the beginning to say “Presented in High Definition where available, provided KFOR remembers and feels like it?”

KWTV-DT off the air?

Has anyone else lost KWTV-DT (9-1, or 39-1 in raw signal terms)? At 9:15 PM on Tuesday, I had The Amazing Race 9 on the HD TiVo via KWTV-DT when the picture and sound froze. After a few minutes, I switched to DirecTV’s feed of KWTV-TV and saw that it was working fine. I called [...]

Weather map season

I’m glad I don’t watch Las Vegas on KFOR-DT. Last night, turning on the set and catching the tail end of the show, I noticed that KFOR had taken it out of HD and was broadcasting it digitally in letterboxed SD to show a weather map about severe thunderstorms that were – again – well [...]

KWTV-DT and CBS-HD

For as long as I’ve had HD, KWTV-DT has shown only the CBS-HD feeds for any CBS programs, because (according to HDTVOK) the station hasn’t had the ability to insert local commercials on that feed, so they’ve just let it run. Watching CSI: Miami on Monday night, I noticed something I hadn’t seen on KWTV-DT [...]

No Rudolph in OKC?

CBS has been advertising a new holiday showing of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on Wednesday (Nov 30) at 7 PM, “for the first time in HD.” (Of course, since the program was made in 1964 in a 4:3 ratio, it’s a new HD transfer that cuts off some of the top and bottom to make [...]

No HD on KFOR? You’re not kidding!

When you said there’d be no HD on KFOR-DT (4-1/27-1) this weekend, it was an understatement, at least for Sunday night. 4-3 is no longer broadcasting hurricane information, but 4-1 isn’t broadcasting anything except the “4″ logo in the upper-right corner. The SD picture was there through Dateline NBC, and then as soon as The [...]

KFOR should just shoot me now

The Notre Dame – Michigan State game is tied at 38 with less than 3 minutes left. KFOR took it out of HD long ago to show a Thunderstorm Watch (not warning, but watch) map for counties hundreds of miles away from OKC and has not put it back in HD since taking the map [...]

New York Times Company buys KAUT from Viacom

The NYTCO already owns KFOR; KAUT has been a Viacom owned-and-operated station since purchasing it from OETA in the late 1990s to carry UPN after Sinclair bought KOCB. Here’s the press release.

Cowboys vs. Chargers in HD?

The list of HD programming on the right side of the page says that the Cowboys v. Chargers game on now is supposed to be in HD. If that’s true, why is KOKH-DT showing it in SD, as they did the game before it?

OETA and program guide

Every now and then, the question comes up about why (once KAUT-DT) is on the air, anyone in OKC would still want to use analog channels. Tonight, right now, there’s another fine example of why: OETA still has absolutely no control over its program guide. Right now, KETA-DT (13-1) is supposed to be showing Cooking [...]

KFOR-DT off the air again

4 PM, June 29. Both 4-1 and 4-2 are black for me, but KFOR-TV (over DirecTV) is normal. Any ideas? Update: 4-1 is back on the air at 4:30 p.m. so it apparently was just a brief outage. Dennis

How does this happen?

It’s 7:50 PM, and KOCO-DT has broadcast the entire hour of Lost, so far, in SD, even though it’s listed in HD and every episode of Lost has been in HD. Last night, KFOR-DT let the debut of Late Night with Conan O’Brien in HD go on in SD for 23 minutes, including the entire [...]

Weather maps, again

A while back, we discussed how at least the OKC stations are taking programs out of HD and airing them in SD so they can superimpose severe weather maps, since no local station has the ability to do this in HD, and it’s kind of important information. I suffered through that last night during NBC’s [...]
