NBC Daytime Timeshift or The HD Parade Passes By

What a frustration to wait for years to see the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in HDTV to only have it switched off after the local network gets a live national feed that doesn’t sync with the Central Time Zone. What I expected is for them to let the parade run live in HD and we [...]

KFOR-DT

The 24/7 engineeering work has paid off for KFOR. Monday night’s “The Tonight Show” featured ultra sharpness with a constant 16.5 to 17.5 Mbps bit rate (as per the EyeTV 500 tuner.) The result was NO blurring during the “Headlines” section and razor sharp HD throughout the broadcast. Problems mentioned in last weeks posts appear [...]

Channel 63 – It’s KWTVSD

On Friday night 1/21 before 8 PM I auto-scanned the DTV tuner and saw channel 63 kwtvSD appear on my channel list. There is only a still frame of the NEWS9 logo at the present time. With all the available channel space, it would be nice for CBS to retain the full transmission rate on [...]

HDMI Cable Sticker Shock

Sticker shock will occur to most HDTV customers who shop for HDMI cables at their local retailer. This was not part of the original plan when you read this text from the HDMI web page http://www.hdmi.org/consumer/faq.asp

Olympic HD Feast

After two weeks of viewing the Summer Olympics in SD and HD I am about worn out from viewing. However a visit to Audio Dimensions in OKC became a feast for the eyes on Saturday 8/28 with almost every display showing the NBC HD channel. Differences in display quality were clearly visible. Quick panning during [...]

DirecTV Dish Upgrade Costs

If you have a 2 LNB Oval DirecTV dish there are several ways to upgrade and install it yourself. 1. Pay 12 months of Total Choice at $33.99 a month (add shipping of $8.08) for a free SAT C LNB kit. (That doesn’t include your $10.99 a month for HD programming.) If you terminate early, [...]

New KFOR-DT Logo

Great News! The old “KFOR-DT Oklahoma City” logo in the upper right of the screen was gone tonight and replaced by a new “4″ logo in the lower right corner to the right of the NBC peacock logo. The new “4″ logo continues to appear during national 4:3 commercials and is located in the black [...]

No sound on KOCO-DT

During Inspector Gadget there was no sound on the digital channel. It’s been 20 minutes now and I have called KOCO twice. The lights appear on the 5.1 display – so they are transmitting nothing! I switched to KSBI-DT and all is fine with the system. When they switched to local ads at 21 minutes [...]

Rose Parade on Discovery HD Theater

The Rose Parade coverage on Discovery HD Theater is provided from KTLA-DT. There was a slight sound sync error only noticable during speech at the beginning, but it is in 5.1 on the amplifier. The center channel needed lowering for more 5.1 effect. There will be one repeat of the parade. It looks wonderful and [...]

Winter HDTV Reception on KFOR-DT

Since the leaves have dropped from the trees, my KFOR-DT local reception has worsened on the DISH 6000 in downtown OKC. My only guess is an increased multipath interference due to the missing leaves that were lessening those signals. The other stations are OK (except the missing KOCO.) Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? [...]

New KFOR-DT 4-1 Channel Numbering

On Oct. 27th, after scanning for digital channels with the DISH 6000 receiver, two other analog channels suddenly appeared in place of KFOR-DT 27.1 and 27.2. Looking at my HDTV favorites list, KFOR-DT appeared as 4-1 and 4-2. I unchecked the analog channels and checked the new 4-1 and 4-2 channels. All is back to [...]
