I don’t know, haven’t had anything about Tulsa. The Big 12 basketball tournament is being produced in HD, and of course KOCB can’t show it.

Nice to see KFOR’s getting with the times. EVERY Kansas City station has had their choppers equipped with HD cameras for a year or two now, but then again EVERY Kansas City station (cept Fox of course) does full HD local news, and full HD syndicated programming, something NO Oklahoma City station does.

That really points out how sad it was that KWTV billed their chopper as “HD” a few years and have never been able to actually air anything local in HD.

I’m sure I’ve posted a comment before, but it might have been the other site. Really hasn’t been much to talk about in Tulsa. Maybe one of the other networks will get local HD like KJRH.

I also saw the HD pictures from Chopper 4 after previously viewing Channel 9’s news coverage. Channel 4’s HD coverage of the gas fire looked great. I really appreciate Channel 4’s ability to now cover all local news reports in HD – including HD satellite coverage of the Big 12 basketball tournament. OETA’s and Channel 43’s news programs are HD. When is HD local news coming to the rest of OKC’s local broadcast stations?

However, KWTX 10 in Waco is more than 80 miles from Cedar Hill where the KTVT 11 DFW transmiiter is located. KXII 12 transmits from just south of Madill and is about 100 miles from 11 in Cedar Hill.

I think the rule is that Adjacent VHF DTV channel transmitters must be spaced less than 14.9 miles or greater than 68.35 miles. UHF transmitters have adjacent channel spacing requirements something like that also.

Thanks, Cowboy. Ch 10 in Waco has moved power up to 39,000 watts.

One thing that confuses me. I didnt think DT could have adjacent channel interference. FCC tells me the power increase for ch 11 was denied because of interference to 12 and 10.

12 and 10 are owned by Gray Broadcasting.

Waco has ch 9 (25,000 watts) and ch 10 (39,000 watts). Transmitters are about 9 km apart.

I’m confused.

I live in Texas and hold much interest in what goes on in Oklahoma. I hope it’s okay to occassionaly comment.

I get up to Lawton about three times per year. I really like what’s going on with the new Fidelity owners of Lawton Cablevision.

KSWO-DT Lawton is corporate for KXXV Waco. I know some of these guys. Good bunch.

It’s really interesting to learn about small cable systems from ggore.

KXII Sherman/Denison/Ardmore does now broadcast DTV on VHF 12. KTVT 11 in Fort Worth could not increase their power to adequate levels without causing interference for KXII 12 and therefore moved to UHF 19.

Not really. CableLabs requires encryption for any channels with copy once or copy never flags. Even though the new device from Silicondust uses a network interface rather than USB or PCI doesn’t mean that they don’t have to follow the same rules. The best you’d be able to get is anything you already can receive with a QAM tuner now. I’ve tried capturing video through FireWire on my STB and they have practically everything marked copy once or copy never. Even all the SD channels.

If I’m not mistaken, last year KXII in Sherman/Denison moved from UHF 20 back to their original VHF 12 during the DTV Transition.

The reference to KUSA Denver was simply to illustrate some stations like high VHF.

Now I’m finding requests by tons of VHF stations for power increases. KCAU ch 9 in Souix City, IA tells me the FCC did not delagate enough power for VHF stations. KCAU, along with many other stations do not want a move to UHF. Some VHF (including low VHF) stations are seeking up to quadruple power increases.

CH 10 in Waco broadcasts 25,000 watts. Old analog 10 used 316,000 watts, reduced to 204,000 watts after DT 53 turned on. Ch 10 tells me all is well, so far. However, I believe they too would welcome a power increase.

KXII in Ardmore Sherman Denison broadcasts on channel 20 UHF and is not bothered by VHF channel 11, and it’s hard for me to believe that a Denver, Colorado station is bothered by a station in Fort Worth, Texas. Oh, my gosh, there’s a station in Fairbanks, Alaska using channel 11 also! I hope that doesn’t bother them.
