Hello all, maybe I can help someone out with the KOCO OTA signal. I’m in West Moore, at 6th and Santa Fe and am able to receive the DT signal. (pretty good)

I’m using a Philips Amplified Antenna MANT510.
http://www.epinions.com/content_215097118340#

When I started using HD I was able to get all channels but KOCO in until one day it worked. Then the next day it didn’t. Turned out that it was being interfered with by one of my electronic devices. I have some wireless speakers and when they were on I got no signal or it would drop in and out real bad. Turned it off and it is fine. I’ve also noticed that If I turn a light on and off it will mess with the signal.

Sorry for the long post. If this info helps one person then it was worth it. :) GOOD LUCK!

I am new to this deal, so bear with me.

I live in an apartment complex in Norman. Currently I am using Cox’s HD, but this all changed when they dropped ABC before the OU/Texas game.

Does anyone use an antenna in Norman? My plasma does not have a tuner – any suggestions?

AntennaWeb.org says it may be promising – if so Cox may be gone altogether.

Yancy,
I live in East side Eastlake which should not be to far from where you are and I have been trying to receive KOCO for almost a year now. I have tried different antennas and none of them have worked. But, my antennas have always been behind my HDTV, so there could be some problems with that. How far do you have your antenna from electrical equipment, which way is your antenna facing, how high is your antenna from the ground, and where did you find that antenna?

Thanks,
Brian Mullins

Hey Brian, good to see a neighbor here.

My setup is pretty simple. My antenna is on top of my entertainment center. The wife didn’t really want it there but she understands for that nice HD picture. It is maybe not even a foot off the wall and about 6 feet off the ground. My dipoles are practically horizontal and almost run north and south. Neither of them are completely extended and one of the dipoles are only out about a foot. (the south pointing one) As for all my equipment they are near the ground in a cabinet so the antenna is really not that close to anything. Although my entertainment system does have lights that run through the top. One more thing is that my living room wall is on the north side so my antenna is really only having to pass through the one wall. Not sure if that make a difference but thought I’d throw that in.

Also when using the amplified antennas start your amp at the lowest setting then work up. If I go to high it blows it out. I’m at just over half the amp I think.

Good luck and let me know how it goes, and if you have any other questions I’ll try to help.

Been a while since I visited the site. I can tell I am not the only one disgusted with the whole Cox vs. HA fiasco. All I really care about is seeing the OU / TX game in HD. My set-up is this: 65″ Mitsubishi widescreen HDTV with the Cox 8300HD-DVR box. We all know the crap going on between HA and Cox, so last night I figured what the heck, I’ll use the ole rabbit ears and watch the game. Well, I didnt want to wait till Saturday to try and figure it out, and got really frustrated last night when I couldnt get the ABC channel over the air. I do have the built in tuner, and was able to get alot of OTA channels, but not the one I really care about most at the immediate moment. Can someone pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez help! It’s already Thursday, and I feel like my clock is tickin way fast here! I live in Moore, just south of 149th St and Sante Fe.

I live in Norman close to Brooks and Lindsay in SW Norman. I got so fed up trying to get an HD signal for KOCO that I wrote a letter to KOCO and HA. I got the GM to call me yesterday and I told him how hard it is to get the signal. I currently have a Terk indoor amplified antenna and can’t get it. I get everything else but them. I have ordered an outdoor that will be here in a few days. The GM of KOCO says that there are problems getting it in SW Norman. DUH… I will post after I get the new antenna and let everyone know if it worked. It wasn’t too espensive. Ideally, they will work this mess out!!!

Here are some comments I made concerning an OTA antenna and KOCO reception in South Norman…

I emailed the lead engineer several times. I live in Weatherford and can’t get them at all with an outdoor antenna. They still denied me a waiver! I get KFOR and FOX just fine. KWTV is weak at times.

I have an old Radio Shack amplified tube antenna in my TV room. I can pick up every OTA channel perfectly, except KOCO. I also have HD through Cox. KOCO’s parent company is sticking it to me on that end. I have come to the conclusion that KOCO is not interested in me as viewer, so I am will gladly oblige them.

I got my antenna (TERK HDTVO Outdoor directional antenna). I consulted antenna web and got the degrees to mount it and I got KOCO-TV in HD!!!!!! I live in south Norman. I did need to tune to 7.1 to get it originally and then the tv reset that to 5.1. I was also told to try 7.3 but I didn’t need to do that. Hope that helps. The antenna is available on the internet for between $60-70.

I could use some assistance on this issue. My parents just got a sweet new 57″ Mits DLP and it looks incredible (drool…..). We got a simple RCA 50db amplified VHF/UHF from Wal-Mart. They live in Yukon about a mile due west of Lake Overholser. We can get KOCO to about 75% on signal strength but the audio drops out almost constantly. We’ve tried amplified and non-amplified and have had no good luck. I used antennaweb to try to get it set up but I have had no luck improving the audio. The ears are completely extended and up at about 45 degrees and swept slightly back. We have tried to point the antenna more toward the antenna farm but it doesn’t help.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Go outside and get 4X the signal vs an indoor antenna. A small outdoor Channelmaster is $35 at Lowes, probably not much more than you gave for the indoor antenna. Outdoor antennas aren’t that hard to put up and provide rock solid reception 99% of the time no matter what channel you are watching. Even if you don’t want to go on the roof you can do an attic install instead and still get twice the signal you get indoors.
If you are going to spend $2k+ on a TV, why not go through the trouble to get it to work right?
