I recently moved to Bartlesville from The Woodlands, TX. To my amazement, DTV waiver request came back with only Fox granting. CBS/NBC/ABC denied.

1. Is OTA a valid approach, 40 miles away?
2. if not, what other means ?

thanks!

OTA should be fairly easy with a good outdoor antenna. I am surprised KOKI approved the waiver. I have set up OTA digital for various family and friends at 60 miles and still get reliable signal, but terrain can affect your results.

40 miles is generally nothing for a good OTA antenna. It’s when you get into 60 or more miles away that you can run into problems.

I live in Bartlesville and have an OTA antenna, I get good reception. HD/digital broadcasts from the Tulsa stations is very good with the exception of KTUL; of course their digital signal is limited up here due to the current signal transmission pattern.

My house in Stillwater is about 42.6 miles from the Oklahoma City antenna farm. I get very good HD reception with an OTA antenna. Strong enough to feed HD signals two HDTVs.

The antenna is a big Radio Shack VU-190 antenna and it’s located inside my attic (that is, it’s not outdoors), pointed at 206 degrees toward the OKC antenna farm.

Based on my experience, I would say that you should have no problem getting very good HD reception in Bartlesville from the Tulsa antennae, especially given that you are only 40 miles away and even more especially if you mount your antenna outdoors (mine is in the attic for aesthetic reasons and to keep from ticking off Darling Wife).

Thanks for the replies! We are 50 miles from the Tulsa antenna farm, as a bird flies. It appears the UHF signals are fine up here, but the VHF (KTUL-ABC) may be ratty?

DirecTV card on second HDTV in the house still has the FOX and ABC waiver from Houston. I’ll keep that quiet. But the main HDTivo set has onluy the FOX waiver, so I’m about t begin the OTA process any day now.
