Has anyone else been experiencing lockups when watching ESPNHD on Cox? I’ve found that every time Cox goes to “local commercials” they are broadcasting them in 480i then when the signal goes to switch back to 720p, the system freezes the picture. You can continue to hear the audio, but only the first image that was displayed in 720p shows up. This then happens on every other HD channel, and you have to unplug and reboot the SA8300 to watch HDTV again (all 480i channels come in with no issue). Is ANYONE else getting this? I’ve called Cox and they’ve been out here twice, the say that “we understand you have an issue and are trying to resolve it”.

YES! This started about a month ago – the exact symptoms you’re describing (although most of the time when the picture locks we are unable to change the channel at all). We’ve had Cox out and shown them the issue. They changed out the box on the first trip and on the second trip the guy set the 8300 to 1080i (“Fixed” in the menu) and told us that would fix it. Well, it does, but I don’t want the 8300 upconverting all the time so we’ve changed it back to “Auto HDMI”. I figure it’s a Scientific-Atlanta problem since it occurs with more than one box. We had the box for 6 months with no issue, so hopefully it was a FW update that caused it and they’ll be pushing out new FW to fix it soon.

I see that lockup condition occasionally with my 8300HD box here in Norman.
