I’m so sick of KFOR interrupting HD broadcasts with these weather maps! They took it one step further this time and used the first 33 minutes of “Chuck” to air weather coverage. We have dedicated weather channels for this! Man, it makes me so mad.

This just makes me want to skip over KFOR entirely and go straight to torrent.

It’s not just them. FOX aired ’24’ tonight in standard definition because apparently they don’t have the equipment either to show stuff in HD while overlaying weather maps on top. I think only KWTV has that ability in Oklahoma City.

Everyone except KTUL can overlay the HD feed in Tulsa. I like the way KJRH does it. They overlay their weather graphics with the HD feed. So you don’t actually have anything on the HD Feed, it is all beneath the actual programming.

I noticed on Letterman last night on KWTV-DT that a large chunk of the show was in SD, perhaps because they were running a crawl across the top with severe weather warnings. What I’d really like to know is why they run a crawl saying they turned off their analog signal on February 17th. If people are watching KWTV-DT, either via antenna, cable or satellite, do they need to know that?

The thing that really ticks me off though is that Suddenlink in Stillwater doesn’t carry OETA in HD, even though they take the digital signal and crop the edges to convert it to SD. On shows that are 16×9, like Nova and most shows on PBS, they crop off the names labeling who the people speaking are. Now, it’s not a huge deal to me, but it’s the main reason I can’t recommend Suddenlink for HD programming, even though they’ve been adding a lot of channels to their lineup.

Even afer the switch, the FCC required crawls notifying people of the switch. It does no good, kinda like sending out an email saying email is down!

From what I understand this has been dropped by the FCC. As to why KWTV continues I have no clue.

Dennis (aka, “ultimate”) — I’m with Suddenlink. After seeing your complaint posted here, I notified the Stillwater management team, and it’s my understanding they instituted a fix yesterday, after consulting with the noted PBS broadcaster, in all Suddenlink markets receiving the digital feed from that broadcaster. Let us know what you think by dropping me a line at pete.abel@suddenlink.com, since I don’t regularly check this forum. Thanks.
