So it’s been a year and half since KFOR stopped showing a rerun of Jeopardy! at 3:30 PM and a new episode at 4:00, instead showing the first-run episode at 3:30 and going with the new The 4 O’Clock News at 4:00 PM.
And in that year and a half, they’ve never bothered to update their program guide to stop listing a year-old episode at 3:30 and no new episode at all. Even today, February 26 2013, the 3:30 PM program is listed as a re-run of the 2012 “Teacher’s Tournament.” The actual program is the 2013 finals of the “Tournament of Champions.”
A few weeks ago, I was at a friend’s house, and she had KFOR on her TV when we started visiting, and left it on through an informercial on this particular Saturday at 5:00 PM. When the informercial ended a few minutes before 5:30, there should have been ads running into the live broadcast of NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt (Saturday edition) at 5:30 PM. Apparently having not sold many ads, KFOR ran a loop of its own promos with an occasional Cimmaron Steak House 15-second ad. The loop ran for 3-4 minutes, I guess, and was all PSA or KFOR promo so the steakhouse ads were the only paid content. They’d already run through some of the ads twice when 5:30 came and went. They kept running
So, regarding the TV listings, are you talking about what you see in TV Guide or TitanTV or one of the other listing services, or are you talking about what gets transmitted with the PSIP information?
I’m talking about what is displayed in the DirecTV program guide, which I believe comes through Tribune Programming Services (or used to). A quick trip to TV Guide (via iPad) showed correct information. Not sure where the discrepancy comes from.
Interesting. I never really thought about it. I wonder what the PSIP info says when those shows are on. If I remember correctly, Dish bought the company that does TV Guide, which used to be based out of Tulsa, not that I’m thinking conspiracy.
Rovi bought TV Guide’s on screen and guide services, Dish bought some part (patents maybe, but don’t remember) and had some settlement with TV Guide if I remember right. That is why the TV Guide logo is on the Dish guide GUI, however Dish gets their guide info from TMS Tribune Media Services, just like Directv.
