I’m talking about what is displayed in the DirecTV program guide, which I believe comes through Tribune Programming Services (or used to). A quick trip to TV Guide (via iPad) showed correct information. Not sure where the discrepancy comes from.

I don’t think any canceled Wednesday classes, just canceled them for Thursday on Wednesday.

    Right?

And at 7:22, full HD is back on KOCB, for now. Kudos to the OKC Sinclair staff for fixing it.

Am I too demanding here, expecting too much for 2010? Is this really rocket science and I don’t know it?

(Now, at 7:13, the KOKH crawl is gone from KOCB but the picture is still in SD. Whee.)

Well, we got about 2 seconds of Smallville in HD before it reverted to SD so we could see a crawl:

    1. With the wrong station’s name/ID on it
    2. Listing the “closing” of schools that would already be closed at 7PM on Friday, and
    3. announcing that church dinners in Shawnee were postponed.

    This is 2010, right?

If Kitchen Nightmares is the same way, I’m punting. If I’m going to have to watch it in SD, I’ll watch the rerun on BBC America at a better hour with no dumb Andrew Speno commercials.

And networks honestly wonder why they’re losing viewers to cable. Sigh.

(Keeping the map over Conan’s head for Ed Helms’ entire appearance, when there were no watches or warnings in effect, was a bit of a dick move too.)

They did it again tonight, though, but it was Mike Morgan this time instead of commercials. Morgan had just finished doing his severe weather gig at the top and middle of the 10PM newscast, but decided to do it again over the opening to The Tonight Show when there isn’t even a NWS warning in the broadcast area.

Note to KFOR: When you cut off the opening to The Tonight Show for Mike Morgan, or for commercials because you pre-empted commercials earlier for Mike Morgan, I change the channel and I don’t come back. If I turn it to Conan but I see Mike Morgan instead, I don’t keep checking back to see if you’re going to let me see Conan. I watch something else instead—and I don’t come back for Jimmy Fallon, or Carson Daly, or even “NewsChannel 4 at 5AM” if I’m still awake as I often am.

You have an entire channel for Mike Morgan to use as he sees fit. Keep him out of the NBC lineup unless it’s an emergency.

KFOR didn’t mess with the start of The Tonight Show tonight, but then again, there was no severe weather in the state.

And then, about 8 mins into the show, there was a monologue skit mocking Oklahoma City!

It can’t possibly be retaliation from the Conan camp.

    I hope.

    (I laughed.)

It was kind of sweet for KFOR to broadcast the entire first episode of “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” in HD, including an HD weather map and crawl.

At least they waited until the last joke of Jimmy Fallon’s monologue before dropping out of HD into that crappy washed out SD picture for absolutely no reason whatsoever, since all that followed was the same weather map they just demonstrated they could put over HD.

KFOR’s motto remains, “Thanks for buying an HDTV! We still hate you.”

Setting aside any piracy issues with BitTorrent (I was a good boy, I bought the last hour of ;LOST in HD from iTunes), it’s not the problem at hand: how to make sure there’s live severe weather information and keep regular programming going for the people who aren’t affected by the weather, so they don’t tune to something else and miss fast-building storm warnings for their area.

They pulled the clock down at 9:22 PM, during a 3rd quarter time-out where they were showing how they test Jay Cutler’s blood sugar (just like every other diabetic does).

I still have no idea WTF that clock was about, but it was annoying. Let’s hope we don’t have more random HD prime time “experimentation” from KFOR-DT.

Last time I did that, I got yelled at. Don’t you plebeians realize that this is the weekend?

We learned years ago that the engineering staff at KFOR doesn’t work during prime time! This isn’t a sweatshop!

(That said, if someone else wants to call them and try it, good luck to you. You can find the telephone numbers on this page.)

I was away from the computer, but I did see that KOKH-DT was back OTA by 7:17 PM. I’m glad.

I really do hate conspiracy theories, especially since Sinclair didn’t have to air the show just because it was on Fox. Local stations pre-empt network programming any time they want, though it would cost Sinclair some money (they’d have to refund the fees for the time to Fox). But it is the silly season.

I also wondered why it wasn’t in HD, though. During the live 4:3 parts, my TV showed a top line that made it look like they were deliberately blacking out left and right sides but the cameras were 16:9, but I’ve noticed that same thing on some other programming and commercials. It looked like the same picture, but I couldn’t swear to it.

I notice that tonight, on the 2-hour season finale, it’s suddenly actually in HD. Still don’t know if it was ABC or KOCO-DT that wasn’t broadcasting it in HD before.

It looks much better. It’s still insane, but it’s sharper insanity.
